What sets achievers apart from everyone else? Why is it easier for some people to accomplish their goals than others?

Successful people have attitudes, beliefs, and habits that have helped them get to where they are. By going out of their comfort zones and doing these 14 things differently, their milestones have reached unprecedented heights. These might be able to transform your life, too and maybe you’re not far off! Hopefully you can use these to inspire you to achieve your dreams and get motivated!

1) They value their time

Phenomenally successful people don’t spend their time in activities that do not contribute to their personal growth; you shouldn’t either. They know that time is a finite resource that should be used wisely.

The first step to transforming your life is to change your attitude towards time. If you feel you’re being asked to do something that has no added value to your personal or professional goals, then don’t do it. Remember, time spent is gone forever.

2) They push their boundaries

Successful people take risks and go out of their comfort zone to give themselves room to grow. They are not afraid of feeling uncomfortable or awkward. Like them, learn to embrace challenges and new situations, as these will raise your standards and increase your threshold for difficulties. Build those muscles by doing some heavy weight lifting!

3) They create specific goals and dauntlessly pursue them

Successful people don’t just aimlessly go through life like driving a car without an exact destination in mind. They know that they only live once and they should make the most out of it. Setting specific, attainable goals – plus having an action plan and a deadline for each – is essential if you want to achieve more. Change a goal like “I want to lose weight” to “I want to lose 7 kilos in 3 months” to make it powerful and actionable.

4) They believe that success is a slow and steady process

Most people think that they can achieve success overnight,. but first you must realise that it isn’t that easy. Those who succeed know that goals worth achieving take time, and they are willing to invest as much time as it needs to reach them. There’s no specific timeframe. Instead of feeling impatient and frustrated, focus your energy on little improvements you can make each day, which can add up to something big as time goes by. It will take some time, but it will be worth it. Take Richard Branson for example, who we now know to be a multi-billionaire with ventures in almost every industry. He started small, knowing that success was a steady progress and worked toward smaller milestones before growing stronger.

5) They dress to win

People create their perception of your whole character based on a single encounter or a single quality you have shown them. Thus, looking the part is important in your quest for success.  Dressing up like a winner makes you one in the eyes of people you meet. When you look great and take care of your appearance, you give people the impression that you are successful, reliable, and deserve their respect.

6) They have a positive outlook

Your thoughts are very powerful and can decide your destiny. Successful people fill their minds with positive energy and are not hampered by their personal weaknesses. They make the most of their strengths and find ways to continuously improve themselves. Positive thinking helps you develop better coping mechanisms in times of difficult circumstances. It also allows you to live a longer, healthier, and happier life.

7) They bounce back from setbacks

Successful people believe that failures are a part of the journey to success. These can teach invaluable life lessons that can help you do better in the future. Like them, start seeing failure as an opportunity to start again, wiser and stronger than before. Author JK Rowling, whose novels have sold millions of copies around the world leads the ‘rags to riches’ story when she moved from living off of social benefits to become a world-renowned author. Sometimes life can knock you down, but people like Rowling pushed through and went to change the world for the better.

8) They gravitate towards winners

According to entrepreneur and motivational speaker Jim Rohn, “you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” People around you help form your lifestyle and beliefs. If you surround yourself with people full of negativity, you will eventually share their mindset. On the other hand, positive people will push you to become the best version of yourself. Be among people who have big dreams and are brave enough to do what’s needed to reach them. Their vivacious spirit will inspire you to take that leap to greatness, as well.

9) They don’t wait for the right moment, they make every moment right for them

There’s no such thing as the perfect moment. If you go on waiting for one, you will be waiting for the rest of your life. Extremely successful people know that circumstances will never be ideal, and that they can’t put things off for tomorrow. Get started as soon as you can!

10) They know how to listen

Successful people understand that there are people out there who might be better than them at what they do and are humble enough to listen to what they have to say. By listening and being open to different perspectives, you can learn new ideas which you could use in your own projects.

11) They know that learning is a never-ending process

Education does not end after college. Each day is an opportunity to learn and improve.  Successful people invest in themselves by reading books or taking up courses in order to acquire new skills.

12) They pay it forward

Successful people don’t just think about themselves; they are also driven to fulfill the needs of others. Mark Zuckerberg made it easier for everyone to get in touch with friends and family. Larry Page and Sergey Brin created Google and made information accessible to everyone with an Internet connection. Artists and performers uplift and inspire millions by sharing their talents. If you want to succeed, focus on yourself and how you can make a difference in the world at large.

13) They know when and how to say NO

Successful people know their limits and do not go out of their way to please everyone; it’s impossible to do so anyway. Be bold enough to say no when you need to so you can have more time and energy for activities that really matter to you. And there’s no need to apologise for your decision!

14) They are accountable for their actions

Successful people do not point fingers when faced with a difficult situation; they know that they are responsible for their own actions. Playing the blame game does not in any way help in achieving your goals, and can only create hostility and frustration. It’s just an excuse to not exert the effort needed to move forward. Your future depends on you alone.
